1. Background of Lean Management
The rise of Japanese manufacturing in the 1970s and 1980s and the MIT survey of lean manufacturing in Japan in 1990 gave the Germans a big shock. In this report, the production methods used in the European and American automobile industries, including Germany, are called “mass production methods”, and the one-piece production method is opposed to mass production methods. The report believes that the Japanese automotive industry combines the advantages of “single-piece production methods” and “mass production methods”, which Womack et al. named “lean production methods”.Based on the lean production method, Germany further proposed the idea of fractal enterprise and Lean Management. Lean management requires that all activities of the entire enterprise must be user-oriented. The principle is shown in Figure 1. The relationship between lean management, lean production and team work is shown in Figure 2.
