1. Introduction to ISO45001
ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, the ISO International Organization for Standardization, evolved from the OHSAS18001 new occupational health and safety management system. This new standard is designed to help organizations around the world ensure the health and safety of their workers.
The ISO 45001 is based on the well-known OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and is introduced into the “Appendix SL” structure to help businesses and organizations around the world ensure the health and safety of their employees. The “Appendix SL” is the structure used for all newly published standards and revised standards. This structure was also adopted in the recently released ISO/DIS9001 and ISO/DIS14001.
The Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services Project Team (OHSAS) published the OHSAS18001 standard in 1999, which was further developed in 2007 and further integrated with the ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards of language and architecture. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is now working on a new standard, ISO 45001, to replace the OHSAS18001 standard. The standard is expected to be released in the fall of 2016.
Organizations that have received OHSAS18001 certification can continue to remain unchanged until the end of the conversion period after the publication of the ISO45001 standard.
