1. What is ETL?
ETL, an abbreviation of English Extract-Transform-Load, is used to describe the process of extracting, transforming, and loading data from the source to the destination. The term ETL is more commonly used in data warehousing, but its objects are not limited to data warehousing.
ETL is an important part of building a data warehouse. Users extract the required data from the data source, clean it through data, and finally load the data into the data warehouse according to the predefined data warehouse model.
Information is an important resource for modern enterprises and the basis for enterprises to use scientific management and decision analysis. At present, most companies spend a lot of money and time to build online transaction processing OLTP business systems and office automation systems to record various related data of transaction processing. According to statistics, the amount of data will increase exponentially every two to three years. These data contain huge commercial value, and enterprises usually only account for about 2% to 4% of the total data. As a result, companies still do not maximize the use of existing data resources, so that they waste more time and money and lose the best opportunity to make critical business decisions. Therefore, how to transform data into information and knowledge through various technical means has become a major bottleneck for improving its core competitiveness.
ETL is the main technical means.
